Education and the encouragement of participation by young people have always been key to the ongoing success
of the Drymen Show.
The Drymen Show Competition for local schools and nurseries from Gartocharn to Kippen allows individuals, groups
or classes to showcase their talents for parents and visitors to the show.
The Competition’s categories are Young Artists and Young Craftspersons, Young Poets and Young Writers,
and a special “Exploring Our Environment” section.
Apart from the environmental section, subjects for art, craft and writing are
unrestricted and should fit in with normal classwork. It is clear that the principles of the Drymen Show’s long-established
projects for schools match the outcomes of the Scottish Government’s “a curriculum for excellence” enabling
each child to “have the freedom to discover and choose
ways to create images and objects using a variety of art materials” (cfe
Expressive Arts) and “appreciate the importance and
relevance of language in [his/her] personal life and for the world of work” (cfe
Literacy and English Writing). This meets the purposes of the 3-18 Curriculum to create successful learners, confident
individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
We hope that teachers will encourage their pupils to take part and that parents and children will encourage
their schools to take part.
